BOTANICA. Grass and Violet

I created this little bunch of artworks exactly one year ago, but I was so busy I didn't even have the time to write a post about them. They actually are a continuation of the two large paintings called DROPS. Grass and Violet, and are inspired by the same observation of Nature during Springtime.

Ho creato questo piccolo gruppo di opere esattamente un anno fa, ma ero così impegnata che non ho nemmeno trovato il tempo di pubblicarle. Sono in effetti la continuazione di due dipinti più grandi chiamati DROPS. Grass and Violet, e sono ispirate dalla stessa osservazione della Natura in Primavera. 

These eight artworks are part of the BOTANICA series, and are named GRASS and VIOLET. They measure 21x30 cm and are made on 100% cotton Fabriano paper 300gr, using the technique of watercolour and ink drawing.

Queste sei opere sono parte della serie BOTANICA, e si chiamano GRASS e VIOLET. Misurano 21x30 cm e sono state realizzate su carta Fabriano 300gr 100% cotone, con la tecnica dell'acquerello e disegno ad inchiostro.

Non c'è niente da fare, non resisto agli Haiku! E questo in particolare esprime con tanta sommaria indeterminatezza l'emozione mutevole, imprecisa e crescente della Primavera. La stagione in cui tutto si risveglia, in cui si ricomincia a crescere. Così, dopo il riposo invernale, la Natura si muove e la vita inizia a fluire, la linfa a scorrere.

I cannot help loving Haikus! This one is particularly amazing in expressing, with its undefined abstractness, the ever-changing, inaccurate and growing feeling of Spring. Therefore, after a long winter rest, Nature makes a step forward and life starts flowing again. 

Il prato è uno dei primi ambienti in cui la nuova vita si manifesta ampiamente, tra erba e tenere foglie. Il verde è intenso, carico. E tra l'erba, sbocciano in abbondanza tarassaco, margherite, primule, viole, muscari... 

Life starts to flow in the fields, where tender leaves of grass sprout. The green is of an intense hue. And among the grass, dandelions, daisies, primroses, violets, grape hycinths bloom.

Queste due opere sono parte della serie DROPS, e si chiamano GRASS e VIOLET. Misurano 70x50 cm e sono state realizzate su carta Fabriano 300gr 100% cotone, con la tecnica dell'acquerello e disegno ad inchiostro.

Inoltre, gli acquerelli della serie DROPS sono state scelti per diventare altro, per crescere e trasformarsi. Così GRASS e VIOLET sono l'ispirazione per due nuovi capi della mia Arte da Indossare, in questo caso due nuove sciarpe. Le sciarpe sono stampate e cucite in italia, e sono fatte di un morbido tessuto composto di modal e cachemere.

Gli acquerelli originali e le sciarpe saranno presentati durante l'esposizione a Palazzo Pretorio di Sansepolcro, dal 25 marzo al 2 aprile 2017.

Moreover, the watercolours belonging to the DROPS series, where chosen to become something else, to expand and be transformed. Thus GRASS and VIOLET were the inspiration for two new pieces of my Wearable Art, two new scarves. The scarves are printed and sewn in Italy, and are made of a soft fabric made of modal and cachemere. 

The original paintings and the scarves will be on show during the next exhibition at Palazzo Pretorio in Sansepolcro, taking place from march 25th to april 2nd.

Matsuo Bashō

As you might very well know from my Haiku Paintings blog feature, I love poetry and I'm particularly fond of Japanese Haiku poems. This very short and elegant form of art, dates back to the 17th century and has a great power to generate images in the reader's mind. 

Come si può capire dalla rubrica del mio blog chiamata Haiku Paintings, amo la poesia e in particolar modo gli Haiku giapponesi. Questa forma d'arte così elegante e breve risale al sedicesimo secolo e possiede, a mio avviso, un raro potere evocativo capace di generare immagini nella mente del lettore. 

These few lines by Matsuo Bashô are a perfect example of this extraordinary evocative power, making us immediately feel plunged into the microclimate of a pond, with its silence broken by the splash of the frong and the ripples of the water. 

Queste poche righe del poeta Matsuo Bashô sono un esempio perfetto di questo straordinario potere evocativo, e ci fanno sentire immediatamente immersi nel microclima di un laghetto, di un vecchio stagno il cui silenzio viene interrotto solo dal tuffo della rana e dalle increspature dell'acqua.

This microworld was the inspiration for creating this set of 18 small paintings. They belong to the Botanica series and their name is POND. They are inspired to plants and weeds living near the water, with their very thin or very large leaves, with enormous capsules and very peculiar forms. The colours are very delicate and washy, but still vibrant.

Questo micro mondo è stato di ispirazione per creare un gruppo di 18 piccoli dipinti. Appartengono alla serie Botanica e si intitolano POND. Sono ispirati alle piante e alle erbe che vivono vicino all'acqua, con le loro foglie molto sottili o molto larghe, con le capsule grandissime e le forme particolari. I colori sono molto delicati, quasi slavati ma vibranti.

This collection was displayed during my latest exhibition in Via di Mezzo 6 in Florence, so those who visited the show have already seen the series live. It is made of 18 watercolour paintings with ink drawings on paper, and measure 14x14 centimeters.

Questa serie è stata esposta durante la mostra in Via di Mezzo 6 a Firenze, così chi ha visitato la mostra ha avuto modo di vederla dal vivo. E' composta di 18 dipinti ad acquerello con disegni ad inchiostro su carta, e misura 14x14 centimetri.

DROPS, LEAF AND FRUIT

Playing with colours has always been my thing. While painting and drawing these two large paintings I was thinking about what inspires me most, Nature. Fresh and juicy fruits of imaginary water plants, with thin and long leaves and enormous pods.

Giocare con i colori è la mia passione. Mentre dipingevo e disegnavo questi due grandi acquerelli, pensavo a ciò che è per me costante ispirazione, la natura. Frutti succosi e freschi di immaginarie piante acquatiche, con foglie sottili e lunghe ed enormi capsule.

Or majestic equatorial leaves, used to wrap and fan and create, as green as the forest, as fresh as thin air.

O maestose foglie equatoriali, usate per avvolgere e creare e fare vento, verdi come la foresta, fresche come l'aria.

Both the paintings were on show during the exhibit in Via di Mezzo 6, Florence. And together with other ones have been used as a basis for creating thin and warm textiles. 

Entrambe le opere sono state in mostra durante l'evento in Via di Mezzo 6 a Firenze. E insieme ad altre sono state usate come base per creare tessuti sottili e caldi. 

These textiles were used for creating soft and colourful scarves, that are available in my shop.

Questi tessuti sono stati usati per creare sciarpe morbide e colorate, che sono in vendita nel mio negozio.

DROPS, Stone

Always start from a nice palette. Picking up colours and fixing shapes in my head, moving elements and imagining scenarios. This is where I started from.

Cominciare sempre con una palette convincente. Scegliendo i colori e fissando le forme nella testa, spostando gli elementi e immaginando scenari. Ecco da dove sono partita. 

A series of paintings, that I called Drops, is made of layers of flebile colours juxtaposed to create an image, to tell a watery story of moving elements, ready to be sketched on and ruled with inky lines and patterns. 

This artwork is inspired to the the mineral world, expressing itself by creating mountains and river beds, ocean floors and volcanoes, pebbles and dust. The colour ranges from a gray - black to a pale pearl.

Una serie di opere che ho chiamato Drops, fatta di strati di lieve colore giustapposti per creare un'immmagine, per raccontare una storia acquatica di elementi in movimento, pronta per essere disegnata e rigata da righe e pattern di inchiostro.

Quest'opera è ispirata al mondo minerale, alle pietre e ai sassi, che formano montagne e letti dei fiumi, fondali marini e vulcani, ciottoli e polvere. Il colore comprende tonalità che vanno dal grigio - nero al color perla.

One of these paintings has been used as a basis for creating thin and warm textiles for the Wearable Art project. 
Una di queste opere è stata usata come base per creare tessuti sottili e caldi per il progetto Arte da Indossare.

These textiles were used for creating soft and colourful scarves, that are available in my shop.

Pics from Via di Mezzo 6

Time in Via di Mezzo 6 quickly passed by, and now I know a week was not enough to welcome all the people who wanted to step by and see the exhibition. Good to know for the next time. I really loved working in this lovely space whose owner, Sara Amrhein, really made me feel at home, so there might be a second opportunity.

Il tempo in Via di Mezzo è passato velocemente e ora so che una settimana non è sufficiente per accogliere tutte le persone che volevano passare e vedere la mostra. Buono a sapersi per la prossima volta. Mi è piaciuto molto lavorare in questo spazio accogliente e Sara Amrhein, la proprietaria, mi ha fatto sentire come a casa, quindi potrebbe esserci una seconda volta.

Many people stepped by, both friends and passers by, and it was nice to meet them and have a nice chat. But since, like most fellow artists, I'm quite a solitary soul, it's also nice to retreat again in my home studio. This post is for those who could not make it and might want to have a sneak view of the show. 

Molte persone sono passate, sia amici che passanti, ed è stato bello incontrarli e fare due chiacchiere. Ma, come la maggior parte dei miei colleghi, sono un'anima solitaria e mi piace anche tornare al lavoro nel mio studio. Questo post è per chi non è riuscito a passare e vuole dare un'occhiata alla mostra.

I had the original watercolour paintings that were chosen to become textiles for my Wearable Art project, this series is named DROPS, and was especially meant for being printed on textiles. I really loved having them displayed side by side with the scarves and dresses. 

Ho esposto gli acquerelli originali che sono stati scelti per diventare il mio progetto di Arte da Indossare, questa serie si chiama DROPS ed è stata creata appositamente per essere stampata su tessuto. In questa occasione è stato possibile mostrare le opere insieme alle sciarpe e agli abiti.

Also a collection of 18 new small paintings was on show. Their belong to the Botanica series and their name is POND. They are inspired to plants and weeds living near the water and I will write a dedicated post in the next days. 

Era in mostra anche una collezione di 18 piccole nuove opere. Appartengono alla serie Botanica e si chiamano POND. Sono ispirate alle piante e alle erbe che vivono in prossimità dell'acqua e scriverò un post dedicato nei prossimi giorni. 

I also brought a bunch of my larger Botanica paintings, whose creation has really become a kind of meditation on colours, shapes, herbs and patterns. In the photo gallery below you can see three paintings belonging to the series "The Nights", some Botanica earrings, a bunch of cards and bookmarks of my stationary sets, and me in a cheerful pic taken from a friend and clearly showing how much I liked the experience.

Ho portato anche un gruppetto dei Botanica più grandi, la cui creazione è diventata una vera forma di meditazione sui colori, le forme, le erbe e i pattern. Nelle foto qui sotto puoi vedere acquerelli della serie "The Nights", alcuni Orecchini Botanica, un gruppetto di cartoline, bigliettini e segnalibro dei set di cartoleria, e me in una foto allegra fatta da un'amica che mostra chiaramente il mio umore durante questa esperienza. 

I'm proud of the collaboration with one of the best publishing houses for children, issuing one gorgeous illustrated book after the other. Kalandraka is a Spanish publisher famous for the quality of its work and for being the official publisher for the famous Premio Compostela, it is internationally renowned and publishes in many countries and languages. Lola Barcelo is the chief of Kalandraka Italia and a wonderful and passionate reader. We had a lovely morning and many children enhancing their creativity through this readings!

Sono felice della collaborazione con una delle migliori case editrici per bambini, che pubblica un bellissimo albo illustrato dietro l'altro. Kalandraka è una casa editrice spagnola famosa per la qualità del suo lavoro tanto da essere l'editore ufficiale del famoso Premio Compostela. è conosciuta a livello internazionale, ha sedi in molti paesi e pubblica in altrettante lingue. Lola Barcelo è l'editrice responsabile di Kalandraka Italia e una lettrice per bambini appassionata e competente. Abbiamo passata una mattinata piacevole e i bambini hanno acceso la loro creatività e immaginazione attraverso queste letture. 

And then there was my Wearable Art project. It's been a little more than one year since I started it as an experiment with a lot of passion, and now I can see some fruits of my work. A little collection has been born, and I'm a proud mother!

E poi c'era il progetto Arte da Indossare. E' passato poco più di un anno dalle prime sperimentazioni fatte con molta passione, e ora si cominciano a vedere i frutti del lavoro. E' nata una piccolissima collezione, di cui sono madre orgogliosa!

I can now fill a whole rack! 

E riempie un intero stand!

The experiment consists in printing my watercolour paintings into textiles and then create scarves and minidresses. I like the idea of wearing a piece of art, of keeping it close to the body as a comfort and reminder of what I consider to be my values. Here are some pictures of the collection, now sporting five colours: FRUIT, LEAF, NIGHT, GOLD and STONE. Plus the two dresses with digital illustrations from my The Year of the Goat.

L'esperimento consiste nello stampare le opere ad acquerello su tessuto con cui sono stati creati sciarpe e miniabiti. Mi piace l'idea di indossare un'opera d'arte, di tenerla vicino al corpo come qualcosa di confortante e memento di quelli che considero i miei valori. Story of a bag

Everything always starts in my studio, with watercolour paints. Emotions and thoughts, feelings and ideas, memories and desires. Everything is washed. Everything is processed. By hues and shades, colors and shapes. As the act of painting is an act of expression and freedom, a meditation practice. 

Tutto comincia sempre nel mio studio, con gli acquerelli. Emozioni e pensieri, sentimenti e idee, memorie e desideri. Tutto è lavato via. Tutto è trasformato. Da tonalità e sfumature, colori e forme. Perchè l'atto di dipingere è un atto di espressione e libertà, una pratica meditativa.

Painting is a way to set your mind free, through the beauty of colors. This is the reason why I used to post Haiku Paintings, because Haiku poems, with their few words that are able of describing a world, are very much like to a quick brushstroke telling an emotion.

Morning haze;

Dipingere è un modo per liberare la mente, trasformando qualcosa che si ha dentro attraverso la bellezza del colore. E' il motivo per cui ho pubblicato spesso Haiku Paintings, perchè le poesie Haiku, con le loro poche parole capaci di descrivere un mondo, sono molto simili ad una veloce pennellata, che sappia raccontare un'emozione.

This is one of the ways people can find to give sense to their lives. Colors and stains, drawings and brushstrokes becoming a tale in a painting. And then the tales becoming a pattern, an experiment, stepping from the paper to a fabric, and then into an object, into something to be kept close to the body.

Ecco un modo per dare un senso alla vita. Colori e macchie, disegni e pennellate che diventano un racconto in un dipinto. E poi le storie diventano una fantasia, un esperimento, passando dalla carta al tessuto, e poi diventando oggetto, qualcosa da tenere vicino al corpo. 

Today a soft and tender faux suede has turned into a purse. Someone's always there to help, and I want to thank my talented friend Sophie for having handsewn this little bag with crafstmanship and love.

Oggi un tessuto finto scamosciato, morbido e tenue è diventato una pochette. C'è sempre qualcuno ad aiutarmi in questi passaggi, in questo caso ringrazio la mia talentuosa amica Sophie, per averla cucito a mano, con maestria e amicizia.

Hello Spring and Petals

Welcome to that peculiar time of the year when new energies are about to be born, when the sun lingers longer and we just crave outdoor pleasures. But also time to open the windows and let fresh air in, to clear up and declutter, get rid of burdens and redecorate.
It's the time when flowers bloom on the paper on my desk, where colors and light trace bright nature inspired patterns.Tulip, lilac, rose, daisy, daffodil, hyacint, primrose, periwinkle petals. 
Tender leaves with a surprisingly strong scent that can be found in hidden pathways through groves or scattered on the fields.
This series of original watercolor paintings measures 8.6x8.4 inches/ 22x21,4 centimeters, is made on a 100% cotton paper made in Italy and is already availabale in my shop.

Benvenuta in quel particolare momento dell'anno in cui nuove energie stanno per nascere, quando il sole si attarda sul giorno e desideriamo goderci le giornate all'aperto. Ma anche tempo di aprire le finestre e far entrare aria fresca, liberare la nostra vita e i luoghi che abitiamo da inutili pesi.
Ecco perchè sono sbocciati fiori sulla carta del mio tavolo, dove colori e luce tracciano disegni ispirati alla natura. Petali di tulipano, lillà, margherita, narciso, giacinto, rosa, pervinca, primula. Foglie tenere con un profumo sorprendentemente forte, che si possono trovare nei sentieri del bosco o sparsi nei prati.
Questa serie di acquerelli originali su carta misura 22x21,4 centimetri, è fatta su carta italiana 100% cotone ed è già disponibile in negozio.

The making of Petals

Don't you ever feel the need to bring more color in your life? Do you ever get the impression western society is bound to linger between grey and beige hues? Aren't these the colors we refer to when we think of elegance? But it is not the same in countries where women dress in bright colors. Well then, I need an ideal holiday in tropical lands: color is what I need! Our society should really remember to bring more joy to everyday life with bright and colorful hues.

Proof is that when we refer to "natural colors", we mean sober and drained hues, but look at the flowers! Aren't they natural and extremely bright and loud? 

Happyness condensed on my desk!

Non senti mai la necessità di portare più colore nella tua vita? Hai mai l'impressione che la nostra società sia condannata ad oscillare tra il grigio e il beige? Non sono forse quelli i colori a cui ci riferiamo quando parliamo di eleganza? Ma non è lo stesso in società in cui le donne si vestono di colori brillanti. Bene, allora mi serve una vacanza ideale in paesi tropicali: ho bisogno di colore! La nostra società dovrebbe pensare seriamente a portare più gioia nella vita di tutti i giorni con tinte allegre e luminose. E infatti quando parliamo di "colori naturali" ci riferiamo immancabilmente a colori sobri e spenti, ma guardiamo i fiori! Sono molto naturali eppure i loro colori sono forti e squillanti. 

Un condensato di felicità sul mio tavolo!

Drops - Summer

These works tell a story of soil giving abundant harvests, of dry, hot air of a raging summer. Of seedlings becoming mature under the sun, of promises made for the year coming. And of golden rains pouring over the fields.

Le opere raccontano una storia di terre che regalano abbondanti raccolti, dell'aria secca e calda di una torrida estate. Di semi che maturano al sole, di promesse fatte per l'anno a venire. E piogge dorate che cadono sui campi.

I created an abstract background which was completed with ink drawings. These artworks are watercolor and ink drawing on Italian Fabriano 100% cotton paper. I've created four artworks measuring 11,7x8,3 inches that is 30x21 centimetres.

Ho creato uno sfondo astratto che ho completato con disegni ad inchiostro. Queste opere sono state realizzate con acquerello e inchiostro sula splendida carta Fabriano 100% cotone che uso solitamente. Si tratta di quattro opere in formato A4 (30x21 cm).

The making of Drops - Summer

As I've already mentioned before, I've been spending some time in the Tuscan countryside during the month of July where I've also been working a lot, inspired by Nature as always.

Come scritto in un post precedente, ho passato del tempo nella campagna toscana durante il mese di luglio, dove ho lavorato molto, ispirata dalla natura.

Since a while I felt the need to create something more abstract and I started working on this direction in Florence, where I created the basis for four some paintings.

Da un po' di tempo sentivo il bisogno di creare qualcosa di più astratto e ho iniziato a lavorare in questa direzione già a Firenze, prima di partire, dove ho creato le basi per alcuni dipinti.

But the amazing nature of the country gave me inspiration for accomplishing the works and creating new ones.

Ma la bellissima natura della campagna mi ha dato l'ispirazione per concluderli e crearne di nuovi. 

This is the place where I belong to, the place where I was born, and really feel a deep bonding with this land.

Questo è il posto a cui appartengo, il posto dove sono nata e sento un legame profondo con questa terra.

Botanica, Blossom

Honeysuckle scent, Fuchsia blossom, Rose wind and Tangerine sunset. I've just finished working on four new original watercolor paintings of the Botanica series. The drawing is made with ink, the size of the paper is A4. I really love this ever changing series and the infinite, invisible changes of the hues and the shapes. Each living creature is unique. 

Honeysuckle scent, Fuchsia blossom, Rose wind e Tangerine sunset. ho appena finito questi quattro acquerelli originali della serie Botanica. I disegni sono fatti con l'inchiostro e la carta è un A4. Mi piace questa serie con le sue piccole, invisibili variazioni nelle tonalità e nelle forme. Ogni creatura vivente è unica.

Atlantis

Today I'm glad to introduce a brand new series of artworks inspired to submarine, imaginary landscapes and called Atlantis. I wanted to create a movement of creatures gently swaying underwater and producing magical echoes.

Vi presento oggi una nuova serie di opere ispirate a paesaggi immaginari sottomarini e chiamata Atlantis. Volevo creare un movimento di creature dolcemente ondeggianti sott'acqua che producono echi magiche. 

These artworks are made of watercolor, collage and ink drawing on the beautiful Italian Fabriano 100% cotton paper I always use. I've created four artworks measuring 11,7x8,3 inches that is 30x21 centimetres, plus a very large one measuring 27,6x19,7 inches that is 70x50 centimeters.

Queste opere sono state realizzate con acquerello, collage e inchiostro sulla splendida carta Fabriano 100% cotone che uso solitamente. Per ora si tratta di quattro opere in formato A4 (30x21 cm) e una molto grande (70x50 cm).

Spring Pebbles

Spring is almost here and I finally managed to finish drawing my new Pebbles. When I decided to pick them up, I could not believe I had started the watercolor basis almost two years ago! So I'm very happy they are now complete. 

These are all different and original watercolor paintings and ink drawings on high quality rough 640gr/mq Italian paper and measure 23x23 centimeters m or 9x9 inches.

La Primavera è quasi qui e sono finalmente riuscita a finire di disegnare gli ultimi Pebbles, i Sassolini. Quando mi sono decisa a riprendere questi acquerelli non potevo credere di aver fatto le basi quasi due anni fa! Così sono felice di averli completati. 

Queste opere sono tutte originali e uniche, realizzate con acquerello e inchiostro su carta ruvida di alta qualità 640gr/mq e misurano 23x23cm.

New Pebbles

February is the month dedicated to painting and finishing some of my paper projects. Although I've been painting Pebbles many times over the last years, I know how much they are appreciated, and how much I love creating them. So here you have a new, small collection of watercolors and ink on paper, almost ready to be listed in the shop. The paper beautifully thick, the colors cover a wide spectrum, and the ink drawings are inspired to Nature's patterns. 

Febbraio è finalmente il mese giusto per dedicarmi alla pittura e per finire alcuni dei progetti rimasti ad aspettare. Anche se le Pebbles non sono nuove, so che sono molto amate e che io stessa amo dipingerle. Così arriva una nuova collezione di acquerelli e inchiostro su carta, quasi pronte per essere messe in negozio. La carta è bellissima e spessa, i colori coprono un ampio spettro e i disegni ad inchiostro sono ispirati alle forme naturali.

Colazione da Gilda

I miei acquerelli al romantico bistrot nel cuore di Sant'Ambrogio.

L'atmosfera accogliente di questo piccolo ristorante nel cuore del mercato di Sant'Ambrogio è davvero perfetta per una piccola mostra nel mese degli innamorati.

E se tutti conoscono l'ottima cucina della signora Gilda, forse non è così noto che questo bistrot ex bottiglieria, foderato di caldo legno, è aperto anche al mattino e offre un'ottima colazione. Così ho pensato ad un'inaugurazione che renderà felici tutti quelli che amano la passeggiata del fine settimana in uno dei quartieri più vivi della città.

La mattinata di sabato 1 febbraio propongo un appuntamento per un caffè da Gilda, dove saranno esposti alcuni acquerelli per tutto il mese di febbraio.
