Colazione da Gilda

I miei acquerelli al romantico bistrot nel cuore di Sant'Ambrogio.

L'atmosfera accogliente di questo piccolo ristorante nel cuore del mercato di Sant'Ambrogio è davvero perfetta per una piccola mostra nel mese degli innamorati.

E se tutti conoscono l'ottima cucina della signora Gilda, forse non è così noto che questo bistrot ex bottiglieria, foderato di caldo legno, è aperto anche al mattino e offre un'ottima colazione. Così ho pensato ad un'inaugurazione che renderà felici tutti quelli che amano la passeggiata del fine settimana in uno dei quartieri più vivi della città.

La mattinata di sabato 1 febbraio propongo un appuntamento per un caffè da Gilda, dove saranno esposti alcuni acquerelli per tutto il mese di febbraio.

ART ON ETSY # 3. JESUS PEREA

Abstract prints, altered landscapes, collages and paintings, I love everything Jesùs Perea creates especially those imaginary landscapes. Born in Madrid in 1971, Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts in Universidad Complutense de Madrid. For many years, Jesùs has simultaneously developed his career as a graphic designer and illustrator along with his personal work. Currently, Jesùs's work is focused on the production of digitally generated pieces. 

When did you start being an artist?

In my city, where I always live, Madrid.

Who influenced you?

So many artists, hard to mention just a few.

What makes your work special?

I think I can't answer that... I only can say that I feel happy doing what I do.

Where do you love to work?

In my study, always listening to good music.

Why did you decide to sell on Etsy?

A friend of mine told me about it, and I think it's a great place for selling art.

Preparing for the next exhibition

Sto iniziando a preparare le cornici per la prossima mostra. Stavolta ci saranno solo due formati piccoli. Lo spazio è molto diverso da quelli in cui ho esposto fino ad ora, ma mi piace tanto, molto caldo e raccolto. Mancano solo un paio di settimane ma dobbiamo ancora fissare la data precisa, quindi spero che ci vedremo prestissimo.

I'm working on the frames for the next exhibition. This time only small artworks will be featured. The place is very different from the ones I've used before, and I love it! Still two weeks to go, we're going to fix the date soon. Hope to meet you soon.

Black and White

Black and white immediately creates a classical decoration. A wall decorated with different B&W images like paintings, collages and photography, with a frame of the same color, is a very elegant solution, particularly beautiful for smaller spaces like the bathroom or a corridor. Keep in mind that the images should look consistent, because we can find a wide range of B&W (from warmer to colder tones, like creamy or bluish) and infinite hues between the two opposites. 

Un classico della decorazione è il bianco e nero. Una parete con immagini di pitture, collages e fotografie in stile diverso, tutte rigorosamente in bianco e nero e con la cornice dello stesso colore, può essere una soluzione elegante e d'impatto, che trovo particolarmente adatta ad ambienti di piccole dimensioni, come il bagno o un corridoio. Attenzione però che le immagini formino un insieme coeso, perché ci sono vari toni di bianco e di nero (ovvero che virano ai colori caldi o freddi come il crema o il blu) e infinite sfumature comprese tra i due opposti.

Mi piace scrivere per il blog, far conoscere il mio lavoro e condividerne le immagini, preparare le mostre, curare il mio negozio eccetera. Ma più di tutto mi piace dipingere. E sono sempre così felice e grata quando posso passare il mio tempo in compagnia dei colori. Sto iniziando a preparare le palette per cose nuove.

I love blogging, letting people know about my work, sharing my images, preparing exhibits, curating my shops and so on. But most of all I LOVE painting. And I'm always so grateful and happy whenever I can spend my time in the company of colors. Starting to prepare the palettes for new things.

ART ON ETSY # 2. ELVIA PERRIN

Today we are meeting one of the first artists I fell in love with when I discovered Etsy, Elvia Perrin. I love Elvia's elegant and minimal work, and it's a real pleasure to have her interviewed in my blog, thanks Elvia!

Elvia Perrin received her MFA from the University of North Texas at Denton, Texas, 2002. She was a collaborator, printer and artist at Flatbed Press in Austin, Texas from 2002-2009.She was the Intaglio instructor and the class coordinator at Flatbed Press.She has taught Basic Drawing at Texas State University at San Marcos after graduate school.Elvia taught Printmaking and Drawing I at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.She currently is a Lecturer of Art at Texas State University teaching foundation courses and working in her own printmaking studio.Elvia lives and works in Austin, Texas.She has shown nationally and internationally.

When did you start being an artist?

I have always made art, but I considered myself an artist after graduate school. I felt

like I had a clear vision and voice in my work. I felt secure in my worth of my artwork and as an artist compared to fellow artists.

Who influenced you?

I admire many artists like Tara Donovan, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Sol Lewitt, and many others.  I love looking at art and researching individual artists and their methodology.

What makes your work special?

I like my work because it is sincere. It reflects my obsessive nature, it mirrors the balance of control and disorder in my life. I think my work is beautifully crafted, thoughtful and the true me.

Where do you love to work?

I work in my printmaking studio in my backyard.

Why did you decide to sell on Etsy?

I started to sell on Etsy because I wanted to share my work with as many people as I could and to have an excuse to make more.
