MIO CONCEPT STORE 2018

I finally found some time to take some other pics of this lovely, little, magical shop, where you can find creativity at its best. Mio Concept Store has been featured in some of the coolest lifestyle magazines and travel guides, such as The New York Times, Elle, Lonely Planet, and the Corriere della Sera just to name a few. Happy to be part of it with my DROPS scarves and BOTANICA earrings from the Wearable Art project for the second year running!

Ho finalmente trovato un po' di tempo per fare altre foto in questo piccolo negozietto magico, dove la creatività si esprime al meglio. Mio Concept Store è stato menzionato in alcuni dei più importanti magazine e guide di viaggio come il New York Times, Elle, Lonely Planet, Corriere della Sera, solo per nominarne alcuni. Sono felice di farne parte, ormai da due anni, con le Sciarpe DROPS e gli Orecchini BOTANICA del progetto Arte da Indossare!

What I love most of this shop is the fact that Antje is always on the hunt for new and original designers and this is a great opportunity for both clients and creatives. 

Quello che mi piace di più di questo posto è che Antje è sempre alla ricerca di nuovi designer e questa è una grande opportunità sia per i clienti che per i creativi.

I'ts impossible for me to mention all the beautiful objects on sale, so I will just invite you to step by and have a look with your own eyes at the shop, located in Via della Spada 34rosso, Florence. Antje, Michela and Jaqueline will be a perfect guide through the many marvels of the place.

Giardino degli Iris

This is where this city starts from. A flower. FLOR... FLORENTIA. The purple iris is the symbol of the city, and this colour is absolutely gorgeus, but it's not the only one you will find at the Giardino degli Iris. Located in one of the most beautiful spots of the city, near Piazzale Michelangelo, the garden will suddenly reveal itself to visitors only for one month each year. 

Ecco da dove comincia questa città. Un fiore. FLOR...FLORENTIA. L'iris viola è il simbolo della città, e questo colore è fantastico, ma non l'unico che trovarai al Giardino degli Iris. Situato in uno dei luoghi più belli della città, vicino a Piazzale Michelangelo, il giardino si rivela improvvisamente ai visitatori, per un solo mese all'anno.

Between April and May, it is possible to see this magnificent place blooming with delicate, gradient, tender hues, or bright and sparkling colours. 

Tra aprile e maggio è possibile vedere questo posto meraviglioso esplodere di sfumature delicate o colori brillanti e screziati.

You'll just want to fall into the petals, plunge into the scented bed where beauty lives. Like a bee looking for its nectar. And forget about the world.

Vorrai solo cadere tra i petali, tuffarti in quel letto profumato dove vive la bellezza. Come un'ape che cerca il suo nettare. E dimenticare il mondo.

Mimi Furaha, Firenze

Da questa primavera si è aggiunto alla lista dei punti commerciali una nuova collaborazione, potrai infatti trovare i capi del progetto Arte da Indossare anche da Mimi Furaha, delizioso negozio in Borgo Albizi, nel centro storico di Firenze. 

Springtime is the right moment to add a new place where to find the pieces of my Wearable Art, the shop is Mimi Furaha , it's absolutely lovely and located in Borgo Albizi, in the city centre of Florence.

Come già sai, il progetto Arte da Indossare consiste nel trasportare le opere pittoriche su altri materiali, come morbidi tessuti o leggera carta, per creare capi d'abbigliamento e accessori da potere indossare e tenere così le opere vicino al corpo. Tutto rigorosamente con materiali di ottima qualità e Made in Italy, come ogni capo presente da Mimi Furaha.

As you might already know, the Wearable Art project consists in printing artworks on other materials, like soft textiles or light paper, and create wearable pieces or accessories ti be worn and keep close to the body. Each one with high quality materials and Made in Italy, just like any item you can find at Mimi Furaha's.

At Mimi Furaha's you will find the scarves, the earrings and the dresses, and you can have fun to match them together or with the beautiful pieces that Raffaella and Michelle pick for their lovely shop.

Come si legge sul loro sito "Mimi Furaha si esprime attraverso il volto di Michelle e Raffaella, giovani donne le cui radici sono legate all'Africa e alle bellissime terre del Sud Italia. Quello che propongono è il risultato di una costante ricerca che garantisca alle clienti originalità e divertimento."

As you can read in the website "Mimi Furaha is the expression of the personality of Michelle and Raffaella, two young women whose roots come from Africa and the South of Italy. Their work is the result of a constant research aiming to offer their clients originality and fun."

Michelle sostiene infatti che "bellezza oggi è sinonimo di conoscenza, accettazione e valorizzazione di se'. Il colore ha infatti, un ruolo fondamentale nella cura della propria immagine." 

Michelle states that "beauty is a synonim for knowlegde, acceptance and self appreciation. And colour plays a fundamental role in creating one's image".

Interessante conoscere l'origine del nome, spiegata da Michelle: "Ho scelto il nome mimi furaha, “sono felice” in lingua kiswaili, come omaggio alla mia terra, l’Africa. Questo Paese dai colori caldi e dai sapori speziati è stata la casa della mia infanzia: là sono le mie radici. Voglio esprimere la passione per questo continente attraverso colori accesi e tessuti vibranti. Mimi furaha nasce, infatti, dal mio amore per le cose semplici, dalla gioia di intraprendere un nuovo percorso, fatto di bellezza e creatività." 

It's interesting to know the origin of the name, explained by Michelle: "I chose the name mimi furaha, meaning "I'm happy" in Kiswaili language, as a homage to Africa, my homeland. "

Mimi Furaha offre ancora di più, "vuole stabilire un connubio tra bellezza e cultura creando così una zona dedicata interamente a eventi artistici, mostre, spettacoli, conferenze, e gruppi di ascolto. La naturale ubicazione del negozio, le permette infatti di esprimersi al meglio nel suo intento, trovandosi collocato all’interno di palazzo degli Alessandri, palazzo storico fiorentino."

Mimi Furaha offers something more, "creating a link between beauty and culture, with a space entirely dedicated to art events, exhibitions and shows, and that comes natural, being located in the Palazzo degli Alessandri, one of the many Florentine historical buildings."

Sono passata questa mattina in negozio, dove sono rimasta a lungo a scattare un po' di foto, attratta dai bei colori e materiali.

I was there this morning and kept on taking pics of the place, attracted by the beautiful colors and materials. 

Davvero l'ispirazione non manca, con tanti abiti e accessori di qualità, dai tagli ben fatti, colori vibranti o delicati, stampe variopinte e morbida maglieria.

Mi piacciono le scelte di Raffaella e Michelle, e abbinare sciarpe e orecchini ai loro abiti e accessori è stato molto divertente... e che bellezza! 

I love the choices of Raffaella and Michelle, and it was so fun matching my scarves and earrings with their clothes and accessories.

Le sciarpe del progetto Arte da indossare sono frutto della stampa delle opere DROPS su tessuto. Realizzate interamente in Italia con filati di qualità misto modal e cachemere, sono già disponibili in sette colori diversi: GOLD - GIALLO, NIGHT - BLU, STONE - GRIGIO, LEAF -VERDE SCURO, FRUIT - BORDEAUX, GRASS - VERDE PRATO, VIOLET, VIOLETTO. La distribuzione del colore a macchie e sfumature permette di giocare con le tonalità e i disegni.

The scarves of the Wearable Art project are made printing a series of artworks called DROPS on textile. They are entirely made in Italy with high quality yarns, a mixture of modal and cachemere, and seven colors are already available: GOLD - YELLOW, NIGHT - BLUE, STONE - GREY, LEAF - DEEP GREEN, FRUIT - BORDEAUX, GRASS - GREEN, VIOLET, VIOLET. The colours are distributed in a gradient, giving the opportunity to play with hues and drawings. 

Gli orecchini BOTANICA, leggeri ed anallergici, sono disponibili in tante, coloratissime versioni. Sono infatti la trasposizione su accessorio delle opere omonime pittoriche dedicate alla Natura. Inoltre il packaging in carta bianca, oltre ad esaltarne le tinte, li rende un regalo ideale perché facile da trasportare e con un apposito spazio da usare come bigliettino d'auguri. 

The BOTANICA earings are light and hypoallergenic, and are available in many, colorful hues. They come from the Botanica series, dedicated to Nature. Since they come with a beautiful, flat white packaging, with an included greeting card, they are a perfect gift or souvenir from Florence.

I miniabiti, anch'essi realizzati interamente in Italia con un tessuto 100% cotone, sono una vera e propria tela da indossare, e sono coordinabili con sciarpe e orecchini.

The minidresses, entirely Made in Italy with a 100% cotton yarn, give the sensation of wearing an artwork, and can be matched with the scarves and earrings.

Insomma, mi piace come il mio lavoro si sposa con questo spazio, e potremmo anche pensare ad ulteriori collaborazioni in futuro.

I love the way my work feels in this place, and we could think of creating an event in the future.

Invitation Source self-made design 2016

Ciao! Bentornata dalle vacanze, spero che abbia fatto scorta di giorni rilassanti e sia pronta per iniziare il mese di settembre con entusiasmo. Io lo sono, e con un nuovo appuntamento davanti a me: la quarta edizione di Source, self-made design, DAL 15 AL 22 SETTEMBRE 2016 a FIRENZE. Un festival ricco di incontri, conferenze, dibattiti, laboratori, lezioni, una mostra di oggetti stupendi creati da talenti emergenti e addirittura un casting per ottenere un posto di lavoro come designer di gioielli. Come forse già sai dalle edizioni precedenti, ho lavorato con Source fin dall'inizio e sono un membro dello Staff. Inoltre, avremo un Temporary Shop (che quest'anno si arricchisce anche di una rete diffusa con SharePopUp) pieno di belle idee regalo dove potrai trovare me e il progetto Arte da Indossare, ovvero abiti, sciarpe e orecchini. Quindi se hai voglia passa a dare un'occhiata e a fare due chiacchiere mi farà piacere (non sarò sempre in negozio quindi contattami prima se vuoi essere sicura di trovarmi). Hello! Welcome back from the holiday season, hope everyone has had tons of relaxing days and are now ready to start the month of September with a fresh enthusiasm. I am, and with a new blasting experience ahead: the fourth edition of Source, self-made design, 15 - 22 SEPT 2016 in FLORENCE. It is a festival rich with talks, meetings, ideas, laboratories, workshops, an exhibition of beautiful objects from emerging talents, and even a casting for getting a cool job as jewel designer. As you might know from the previous editions, I've been working with Source since the beginning and I am an active member of the Staff. Moreover we are creating a Temporary Shop where you will find lots of rad gift ideas, so you will find me there together with my Wearable Art project - dresses, scarves and earrings, so come and have a look and a nice chat if you like. Since I won't actually be there all the time make sure to message me in advance if you'd like to talk. Really hope to meet you there, in our NEW LOCATION at the Murate, in the city centre of Florence!

Ti invito a partecipare venerdì 27 novembre all'inaugurazione del nuovo negozio di Source self-made design a Firenze, Via Maggio 53. Dopo la terza edizione di settembre, il temporary alla Casa delle Eccellenze, si apre in Oltrarno un nuovo punto dove trovare oggetti autoprodotti e di design di alta qualità. Siamo particolarmente felici di partecipare alla vita della "rive gauche" fiorentina e proponiamo come al nostro solito incontri con i designer e altri eventi che puoi trovare sul sito. Questa volta non parteciperò solo come membro dell'associazione Altrove, ma anche come artista, quindi porterò il mio lavoro in negozio. Ti aspetto!

You are invited to the opening of the new pop up shop of Source self made design in Florence, Via Maggio 53. After the 3rd edition of the event, and the pop up shop at the Casa delle Eccellenze, we are ready to start a new adventure in our Oltrarno with a shop where you will find high quality design objects. We are very happy to be part of the Florentine "rive gauche" with meetings and happenings dedicated to design, you can find more on the website. This time I will take part to the event not only as a member of the Associazione Altrove, but also as an artist, and will bring some of my works in the shop. Don't miss!

La raccolta delle olive

A vibrant autumn, a neat sky, mild air. And so many olives in just one saturday. 

Un autunno acceso, un cielo preciso, l'aria mite. E tantissime olive in un solo sabato.

It's the Tuscan countryside, soft hills as a carpet.

E' la campagna toscana, morbide colline come tappeto.

The olive is a sacred plant in all the Mediterranean area and the Middle East, a symbol fo peace, strenght, faith, triumph, victory, honor, safeness, abundance, union, eternity.

L'olivo è un albero sacro in tutto il mediterraneo e vicino oriente, simbolo di pace, forza, fede, trionfo, vittoria, onore, salvezza, prosperità, unione, eternità.

Since prehistory the olive tree is part of myths, religions, ceremonies, charms. Olimpic champions were crowned wit olive brunches and an apoule full of oil. Romans made the same with valiant citizens. The Genesis and the Old Testament often speak about this tree. Its wood is hard but ductile and has been used for making tools since centuries. But the most precious part are its fruits.

Fin dalla preistoria l'olivo è parte di miti, religioni, riti, incantesimi. Atleti olimpici premiati con corona d'olivo e ampolla d'olio. Cittadini romani valorosi incoronati con frasche d'olivo. Genesi e Antico Testamento parlano spesso di questa pianta. Il suo legno è duro ma lavorabile ed p stato usato per fare utensili da milenni. Ma la parte più preziosa sono i frutti.

In October, the trees are full of mature olives.

In ottobre, i rami sono carichi di olive mature.

The olives fall on the nets, symbolic objects meaning harvest, nourishment, food. Gathering the fruits that nature gives us with our work.

Le olive cadono sulle reti, oggetti simbolici legato alla raccolta, al nutrimento, al cibo. Raccolgono i frutti del lavoro e ciò che la natura ci regala. 

Harvesting involves many people, for taking over, pulling the nets, grabbing branches to pull out olives, and chatting and laughing. 

Bisogna essere in molti per lavorare alla raccolta, darsi il cambio, tirare le reti, afferrare i rami per battere le olive e chiacchierare e ridere. 

And climbing. 

E arrampicarsi. 

Our bodies, minds and spirits have been build and have been doing this since forever. Nurturing ourselves with sun and work, exchange and crop, play and effort is a healthy ritual.

Così funzionano il nostro corpo, la nostra mente, la nostra anima da sempre. Nutrire noi stessi di sole e lavoro, scambio e raccolto, gioco e fatica è un rito benefico.

Children are wise, and want to work. It's not only a game, they feel they are build for this, for living in nature, cooperating, climbing and discover spiders and berries, finding treasures, for using their bodies smartly.

I bambini, saggi, vogliono lavorare. Non è solo un gioco, sentono di essere progettati per quello, per stare con la natura, contribuire, arrampicarsi e scovare ragni e bacche, cercare tesori, usare il proprio corpo in maniera intelligente.

"What the hell is happening here today? Who are these people?"

"Che diavolo succede qui oggi? Chi sono tutte queste persone?"

Neighbours help each other during the harvest, and the owners prepare an outdoor lunch for everyone. Thanks to the Cloughs for inviting us.

I vicini si aiutano a vicenda durante le raccolte, e i padroni di casa preparano il pranzo all'aperto per tutti. Grazie ai Cloughs per averci invitati.

14 boxes full, 300kg of olives ready for the olive press of the mill is the result of our productive day up in the air.

14 casse piene, 300 kg di olive pronte per il frantoio sono il risultato della nostra giornata produttiva sugli alberi.

And when the oil is ready, it needs a cozy bottle. And most of all it needs a special, custom label for all of us, carrying the memory of a special day. And yes, I could say this is the part I love most, but it's not true because I prefer sitting and tasting the new oil with fragrant tuscan bread. 

E quando l'olio è pronto, c'è bisogno di una bella bottiglia. Ma soprattutto di un'etichetta speciale, personalizzata per tutti i miei amici, per ricordare una giornata speciale. E si, potrei dire che questa è la parte che preferisco, ma non sarebbe vero, perchè è molto meglio mettersi comodi e gustare l'olio nuovo con una fetta di pane toscano, come quando ero piccola. E buon San Martino a tutti!

Ti invito a partecipare sabato 21 novembre all'inaugurazione di una nuova mostra personale che si terrà a Firenze, nella sede del nuovo Smart Hub. E' una mostra per me speciale perchè segna l'inizio della collaborazione con Ilaria Buselli, Viola Andrea Duse Masin e Sara Buselli, curatrici di Day One, ideatrici e organizzatrici della mostra insieme a Smart Hub. Sono molto felice e voglio ringraziare tutti per aver dedicato tempo ed energie a questo progetto. Sara ha inoltre scritto un testo delicato per presentare il mio lavoro che puoi leggere qui e che mi ha dato interessanti spunti di riflessione. Ti aspetto!

You are invited to join the opening of a solo exhibit on Saturday 21st November at Smart Hub, Florence. I consider this a special event being the beginning of a cooperation qith Ilaria Buselli, Viola Andrea Duse Masin and Sara Buselli, curators of Day One, who have organized the show together with Smart Hub. I'm very glad of this and want to thank them all for dedicating time and energies to the project. Ans Sara also wrote a delicate text about my work, that you can read here and that gave me a brand new insight. See you there!

Corridoio Vasariano

Everyone knows that visiting the Galleria degli Uffizi is an experience bringing into your life a kind of spiritual beam.  For me, it's the proof of the existence of the sparkle of Beauty and Intelligence in mankind. A complete Stendhal syndrome, or Florence syndrome.

Tutti sanno che visitare la Galleria degli uffizi è un'esperienza spirituale. Per me è la prova dell'esistenza della Bellezza e Intelligenza nel genere umano. Altro che sindrome di Stendhal, o di Firenze, appunto.

It was an open gallery serving to display statues. The statues were lucky to see such views. Soldiers and Signori must have found some rest, in the end.

E' cominciato tutto con una galleria per mostrare opere scultoree. Le statue erano fortunate ad avere certi panorami a portata di finestra. Soldati e Signori avranno finalmente trovato un po' di pace.

The river Arno. This creature mirrors the sky and the clouds since centuries. It has seen Giorgio Vasari scratching his head, trying and solving the problem of how to create pillars on the sandy banksides for his corridor. It was 1565.

Il fiume Arno. Questa creatura specchia il cielo e le nuvole da secoli. Ha visto Giorgio Vasari grattarsi la testa per risolvere il problema di come affondare i pilastri nella sabbia del suo argine per costruire il corridoio. Era il 1565.

A treaty of perfection.

Un trattato sulla perfezione.

So on this Sunday I was here with a special purpose: visiting the Corridoio Vasariano. For the very first time in my life. This statue can see it every day from the window.

Così questa domenica ero qui con uno scopo speciale: visitare il Corridoio Vasariano. Per la prima volta in vita mia. Questa statua lo vede ogni giorno dalla finestra.

It is a long water snake made of bricks and stone, suspended above the river, crawling over the Ponte Vecchio. Keeping its distance from the city and the lives of the Florentines.

E' un lungo serpente d'acqua fatto di mattoni e pietre, sospeso sopra al fiume, che striscia sopra al Ponte Vecchio. Mantiene le distanze dalla città e dalla vita dei fiorentini.

In the Galleria degli Uffizi, before the Sala di Michelangelo, there is a door. It is closed. It opens only for small groups of people. When it opens you need to step down. Cosimo 1st didn't. He had people taking him on a sedan chair. It was his corridor.

Nella Galleria degli Uffizi, prima della Sala di Michelangelo, c'è una porta. E' chiusa. Si apre solo per piccoli gruppi. Quando si apre si scende. Cosimo I no. Lui andava in portantina. Del resto il corridoio era suo.

In the Corridoio the paintings move. Every now and then they change. You will never find the same. An incredibly huge collection of precious artworks was accumulated by the Medici family during the centuries.

Nel corridoio i quadri si muovono. Cambiano sempre. Non troverai mai gli stessi. Una collezione incredibilmente grande di preziose opere d'arte è stata accumulata dalla famiglia Medici nei secoli. 

This window blew up. It was at night and a whole family, and a student, died. A cruel assassination in Via dei Georgofili. This story doesn't take place during the middle ages or the Rainassance. It was 1993. Nearly 40 people were injured and countless paintings and artworks were damaged by the bomb. You can see one of them here as a memento, the Adorazione dei Pastori by Gerrit Van Honthorst, also known as Gherardo delle Notti.

Questa finestra scoppiò in mille pezzi. Era notte e una famiglia intera, e uno studente, morirono. Un assassinio crudele qui sotto, in Via dei Georgofili. Non una storia medievale o rinascimentale. Era il 1993. Circa 40 persone ferite e tanti dipinti danneggiati dalla bomba. Ce n'è uno qui come memento, l'Adorazione dei Pastori di Gerrit Van Honthorst, conosciuto come Gherardo delle Notti.

We're heading down to the Ponte Vecchio, above the arcades...

Andiamo giù verso Ponte Vecchio, sopra le arcate...

...and look back in wonder.

...e guardiamo indietro con meraviglia. 

We skirt the river, following the stream. The water plays with the sky and reflects its beams on the walls. The Corridoio is full of a miscellanous bunch of paintings of different styles and centuries. 

Costeggiamo il fiume, seguendo la corrente. L'acqua gioca con il cielo e riflette i suoi raggi sulle pareti. Il corridoio è ricco di opere miscellanee di stili ed epoche diverse.

From the round eye of the window I see peple looking at the precious jewels. Cosimo 1st only saw a lively market of butchers, fish sellers, leather artisans. They were so stinky they had been moved from the centre to the Ponte Vecchio, where they could throw everything in the river. Cosimo couldn't bare the stink anymore. 

Dall'occhio della finestra vedo le persone che guardano i gioielli preziosi. Cosimo I vedeva solo le botteghe del mercato, dei conciatori di pelle, dei pescivendoli. Erano così puzzolenti che erano stati spostati dal centro al Ponte Vecchio, dove potevano buttare tutto in Arno. Cosimo non sopportava più la puzza.

Anyway he must have been happy not to be forced to walk on the filthy bridge anymore on his way to work at the Uffizi from home (Palazzo Pitti).

Comunque sarà stato contento di non essere più costretto a passar sopra al ponte sporco ogni mattina quando da casa (Palazzo Pitti) si recava al lavoro agli Uffizi.

I could bare the stink for this view. I think. But the Medici family didn't, so they called in the jewellers.

Pur di godere di questa vista avrei sopportato anche la puzza. Credo. Ma non i Medici, che preferirono sostituire il mercato con le botteghe dei gioiellieri.

Those two little terraces on this incredible view are not the only wonder. Inside the Corridor a new kind of artworks is now displayed. A splendid, heartbreaking collection of self portraits. unique in the world.

I wonder what they do when they're alone. I can imagine those geniuses having conversations about the city or the food. I can almost watch them laughing at the signs of the times. I see them having animated discussions about art and politics. 

Chissà cosa fanno quando sono soli. Immagino tutti questi geni chiacchierare sulla città o sul cibo. Li sento quasi ridere ai segni del tempo. Li vedo discutere animatamente di arte e politica.

Some of them might have been frightened during World War II, when Florence was bombed. Fortunately Ponte Vecchio was the only bridge in Florence that Hitler decided to spare.

Alcuni di loro avranno avuto paura durante la seconda guerra mondiale, quando Firenze fu bombardata. Fortunatamente Ponte Vecchio fu l'unico ponte che Hitler decise di risparmiare.

Chiesa di Santa Felicita. One of the most ancient in Florence taking its origins during the Roman period. Direct access from the Corridor. Oh yes. The Medici family could attend service from here. 

Chiesa di Santa Felicita. Una delle più antiche di Firenze, sorta nel periodo Romano. Accesso diretto dal corridoio. Eh si. I Medici andavano a messa passando da qui.

Visitors exit at the Palazzo Pitti, near the Grotta di Buontalenti, but the Corridor continues inside the palace.

I visitatori escono a Palazzo Pitti, vicino alla Grotta del Buontalenti, ma il corridoio continua fin dentro il palazzo.

Looking up at the Torre dei Mannelli. This family almost drove Cosimo 1st crazy. They didn't want the Corridor to pass through their tower. Poor Vassari had to invent a complicated system of "beccatelli" in stone to overcome it.

Guardo in alto alla Torre dei Mannelli. Questa famiglia fece impazzire Cosimo I. Non volevano che il corridoio passasse dalla loro torre. Il povero Vasari si dovette inventare un complicato sistema di beccatelli in pietra serena per girarci intorno.

Walking under the corridor is an usual feeling for those who live in Florence. But this time it's different. I look up and rethink of my steps. It feels like being born from the womb of history.

Camminare sotto al corridoio è normale per chi vive a Firenze. Ma stavolta è diverso. Ripenso ai miei passi. E' come nascere dal grembo della storia di questa città.

Source is an international event dedicated to self-made design and happening in Florence at the end of our golden summers. We have just closed our third edition and we are proud to say it was a success.

Source è un evento internazionale dedicato al design auto prodotto che si svolge a settembre a Firenze, alla fine delle nostre estati dorate. Abbiamo appena concluso la terza edizione e siamo orgogliosi di dire che è stata un successo.

We work hard. A lot. And we realize it's going to start soon when we see the first big posters on the streets and start receiving packages full of goodies: labels, programs, catalogues and tons of incredibly designed objects.

Lavoriamo duro. Parecchio. E realizziamo che che inizierà presto quando vediamo i cartelloni pubblicitari per le strade e iniziamo a ricevere pacchi pieni di cose belle: etichette, programmi, cataloghi e tonnellate di oggetti di design.

We meet journalists at the press conference in Palazzo Vecchio. National and local papers say we're about to start. So it must be true. 

Incontriamo i giornalisti alla conferenza stampa a Palazzo Vecchio. I giornali nazionali e locali dicono che stiamo per cominciare. Allora deve essere vero.

Oh but wait! The set is not ready yet. Do not panic. We have a very motivated team of strong women and men carrying on the job. 

Ma aspetta! L'allestimento non è ancora pronto. Niente panico. Abbiamo un team molto motivato di donne e uomini forti che portano avanti il lavoro. 

And finally the show is ready. This year 70 designers from across the world (250 in 3 years) have chosen Source to showcase their work. For free. Cool ah? Traditional materials like glass, marble or ceramics meet modern techniques, high tech substances are used by expert hands to create new manufacts. 3d printers and artisans, local know-how and intercultural cooperations, reuse and recycling, laser cutting and handcraft. This is what you can see at Source.

E finalmente la mostra è pronta. Quest'anno 70 designers da tutto il mondo (250 in tre anni) hanno scelto Source per mostrare il loro lavoro. Gratuitamente. Forte eh? Materiali tradizionali come vetro, marmo o ceramica incontrano nuove tecniche, sostanze high tech sono usate da mani esperte per creare nuovi manufatti. Stampanti 3d e artigiani, saperi locali e cooperazioni internazionali, riuso e riciclo, laser cutting e fatto a mano. Ecco cosa si può vedere a Source.

During our first and second edition, visitors were craving to bring home a sparkle of this beauty, and were sad to learn they couldn't. But this time we decided to make them happy and added a little cute temporary shop where you could find original and uncommon objects, with a story behind. Often this story is told by the designers themselves. Oh yes, uncommon and precious encounters. We also produced amazing t-shirts with our logo, that were made in respect to workers and environment. 

Durante la nostra prima e seconda edizione, i visitatori desideravano portare a casa una scintilla di questa bellezza, ed erano tristi perchè non potevano. Ma stavolta abbiamo deciso di integrare un piccolo negozio dove trovare oggetti originali e non comuni, con una storia dietro. Spesso questa storia è raccontata dai designers stessi. Eh si, incontri non comuni e preziosi. Abbiamo anche prodotto delle t-shirts con il nostro logo, realizzate nel rispetto dei lavoratori e dell'ambiente. 

But Source is not just a beautiful place to admire and purchase creative objects. It is a place where (smart) people meet. We have had almost 70 relators and speakers this year and more than 600 professionals have attended our workshops and conferences. Designers, artisans, companies, professors, researchers, students, architects, producers, freelancers and teachers have an opportunity to meet each other and create a network. The topics are business, innovations, technology, desing, product develop, marketing and much more

Ma Source non è solo un bel posto dove ammirare e acquistare oggetti creativi. E' il posto dove persone (sveglie) si incontrano. Abbiamo avuto quest'anno circa 70 relatori e più di 600 professionisti hanno frequentato i nostri workshops e conferenze. Designers, artigiani, compagnie, professori, ricercatori, studenti, architetti, produttori, liberi professionisti e insegnanti hanno l'opportunità di incontrarsi e creare nuovi network. Si parla di business, innovazione, tecnologia, design, sviluppo di nuovi prodotti, marketing e tanto altro. 

Not to mention the location. The Villa Strozzi, its Limonaia and the huge park are just a few minutes away from the chaos of the city. A powerful place to recharge your batteries and concentrate on work.

Per non parlare del luogo. La Villa Strozzi, la sua Limonaia e il grande parco sono a pochi minuti dal caos cittadino. Un posto potente in cui ricaricare le batterie e concentrarsi sul lavoro.

We are happy to feel part of a whole. This German troupe travels across Europe to document innovation. They will soon produce some documentaries to be shown on tv, so stay tuned if you are interested on the subject. Their project is called Tell us your stories and we had a loooong interview.

Siamo felici di sapere che siamo parte di un insieme più grande. Questa troupe tedesca viaggia attraverso l'Europa per documentare l'innovazione. Presto produrranno una serie di documentari per la tv. Il loro progetto si chiama Tell us your Stories e ci hanno intervistati a luuuungooo.

We value and foster cooperation, networking, exchange among people who have a positive attitude and love working. So we need food and drinks and tables to keep the conversation going. And we need mascottes. Let me introduce Vega...

Abbiamo in grande considerazione e incentiviamo la cooperazione, il creare rete, lo scambio tra persone entusiaste e con voglia di lavorare. Così abbiamo bisogno di cibo e bevande per alimentare la conversazione. E abbiamo bisogno di mascottes. Vi presento Vega...

...and Erika's wonder - earthworms. Did you know design can be ethical and committed? And that worms can be fantastic pets as long as they are provided earth and food waste? In return they will give you a rich soil for your plants to grow. Our Sunday workshops for children have already dealt with recicling paper and creating robots. Because we know that nourishing our children's minds is always a good idea. 

... e lombrichi prodigio di Erika. Sapevate che il design può essere etico e impegnato? E che i lombrichi possono essere fantastici animali domestici a patto che diate loro terra e qualche scarto alimentare? In cambio avrete un compost ricco per far crescere le vostre piante. I nostri laboratori della domenica hanno già trattato il riciclo della carta e la creazione di robots. Perchè sappiamo che nutrire le menti dei nostri bambini è sempre una buona idea. 

And this is me. Walking, openign cardboard boxes, talking on the telephone, standing, calling, making interviews, being interviewed, translating, counting, bringing coffee, meeting people, cleaning, arranging, taking pictures, selling, stepping on the marble floors of the villa. But I was not alone.

E questa sono io. Camminare, aprire scatoloni, parlare al telefono, stare in piedi, chiamare, fare interviste, essere intervistata, tradurre, contare, portare il caffè, incontrare persone, pulire, sistemare, fare foto, vendere, calpestare i pavimenti di marmo della villa. Ma non ero sola. 

I was part of a group. A flower power, unstoppable, war machine unit. Ottavia, Maurizio, Manuel, Andrea, Claudia, Costanza, Francesca, Giulio, Sofia, Federica. And the awesome girls who made the set, the nice designers, our DNA (scientific commettee), our lovely sponsors, our partners, the artisans, their families, the pets and many others. But most of all Roberto, project manager, and Matteo, clerk, reviewer and young designer.

Ero parte di un gruppo. Un'infaticabile macchina da guerra dei fiori. Ottavia, Maurizio, Manuel, Andrea, Claudia, Costanza, Francesca, Giulio, Sofia, Federica. E le ragazze strepitose dell'allestimento, tutti i designers che ci hanno dato coraggio, il nostro DNA (comitato scientifico), i nostri sponsors, i partner, gli artigiani, le loro famiglie, Marcello e Federica e Sofia, gli animaletti e molti altri. Ma più di tutti Roberto, ideatore di Source, e Matteo, commesso, critico, disturbatore e designer in erba. 

And for those who could not make it to visit the event, we will bring our temporary shop in the city centre for two weeks from October 5th to 18th. Meet you soon at the Casa delle Eccellenze in Piazza San Firenze.

On top of the tower, the lion. A symbol celebrating the power of people in the ancient Florentine Republic. It is called Marzocco, probably because the city had been devoted to Mars in Roman times. This is a view of the Palazzo Vecchio from the Uffizi courtyard.

A watery glimpse of Florence in January. In spite the river Arno reflects a gloomy sky, I still can find beauty here. I'm surprised to notice how many migrating birds inhabit the river during this season. Or do they just live here? Climate is getting hotter.

Florence Design Campus

We've been visiting the Design Campus of Florence with Source, self made design, to meet students and share our work for the event. The sky was the deepest blue and I loved how it matched with the pinkish red of the modern building. Not to mention those golden leaves!
