Au rendez-vous des amis

If you've chosen to visit Alberto Burri's collection in Città di Castello after my enthusiastic post, you might want to see another exhibition in another beautiful venue. 

Se avete scelto di visitare la collezione Burri a Città di Castello in seguito al mio post entusiasta, vi interesserà vedere un'altra mostra, in un'altra sede di prestigio. 

The Palazzo Vitelli was built during the second half of the XVI century, it is sumptuously decorated with frescos and "grottesche", and has a huge garden with a grotto and beautiful fountains.

Palazzo Vitelli fu costruito durante la seconda metà del XVI secolo, è sontuosamente decorato con affreschi,  grottesche, soffitti a cassettoni e ha un enorme giardino con una grotta e belle fontane.

Palazzo Vitelli is hosting, in occasion of alberto Burri's 100th anniversary, a selection of contemporary artworks called "Au rendez-vous des amis" after the piece by Max Ernst, showcasing the work of 66 international artists. 

Palazzo Vitelli ospita, in occasione del centenario dalla nascita di Alberto Burri, una selezione di opere d'arte contemporanee intitolata "Au rendez-vous des amis", dall'opera di Max Ernst, di 66 artisti internazionali.

Among my favorites is "Mare finito", 2015, by Giuseppe Stampone, dealing with the topic of immigration.

And the delicate work of Anita Sieff "Portable Interiors", made of 49 drawings and writings on canvas.

And I loved the work of Serbian artist Jusuf Hadžifejzović " Painted Traces of Dry Prints of the Products"(2014-2015).

And again, the contrast between contemporary art and the ancient mansion is fascinating

Centenario della nascita di Alberto Burri

This year the world celebrates the centenary of the birth of Alberto Burri. So it's worth a visit to his birthplace, Città di Castello, in Umbria. Burri's artworks are exhibited in two places: the ex "seccatoi del tabacco" outside the city walls, and Palazzo Albizzini, in the historic city centre. Both places are wonderful.

Quest'anno si festeggia il centenario della nascita di Alberto Burri, artista tifernate. Vale allora la pena tornare nella sua città natale, Città di Castello, in Umbria, a farsi un giro. Le opere di Burri sono dislocate in due sedi: gli ex seccatoi del tabacco, situati oltre le mura cittadine, e Palazzo Albizzini, nel centro storico della città. Entrambi i contenitori sono meravigliosi di per sè.

The ex seccatoi were built during the 50's with the purpose of drying tropical tobacco, and chosen by Burri as a studio starting from the end of the 70's, when they had lost their original function.

Gli ex seccatoi del tabacco sono stati costruiti durante gli anni '50 con lo scopo di seccare il tabacco tropicale e furono scelti da Aberto Burri come studio a partire dagli anni '70, quando avevano ormai perso la loro funzione originale. 

They constitute a huge, black, industrial catherdral which can be considered in itself part of Burri's work, totally merging with the artworks they contain, resonating the pace of the paintings.

Sono un'enorme cattedrale nera industriale, e possono essere considerati essi stessi parte integrante del lavoro di Burri, completamente fusi con le opere che ospitano, in risonanza con i dipinti.

Visiting this amazing museum is an aesthetic pleasure. Lines, colors and shapes of Burri's work meet the container to create such a consistent artwork and unique experience that only the best modern museums can offer.

Visitare il museo è un piacere estetico. Le linee, i colori e le forme del lavoro di Burri incontrano il contenitore a formare un un un'unica opera, un'esperienza unica che solo i musei più belli possono offrire.

Inside the museum you'll find 128 artworks made between 1974 and 1993 and some of the so called "Cicli" Il Viaggio, Orsammichele, Sesante, Rosso e Nero.

Dentro al museo si possono ammirare 128 opere realizzate tra il 1974 e il 1993 come alcuni dei cosiddetti "Cicli": Il viaggio, Orsammichele, Sestante, Rosso e Nero.

Other series of paintings are collected here: Cellotex, Orti, Metamorfotex, Annottarsi, Non Ama il Nero.

The other part of the exhibition is located in Palazzo Albizzini, a typical reinassance construction, built in the second half of the XV century. Here you can admire some "Sacchi", "Cellotex", "Cretto", "Plastica", many gorgeous plans for larger artworks (some of them exhibited in the seccatoi), beautiful stage sets for a piece by Silone and for the opera Tristano e Isotta by Wagner, and a series of delicate aqueforti.

L'altra parte della mostra è colocata a Palazzo Albizzini, tipica costruzione rinascimentale della seconda metà del XV secolo. Qui si possono ammirare alcuni "Sacchi", "Cellotex", "Cretti", "Plastiche", molti bei bozzetti per opere più grandi (alcune esposte nei seccatoi), belle maquette per le scene di un'opera di Silone e per il Tristano e Isotta di Wagner, e una serie di delicate acqueforti.

I couldn't take pictures inside, so it's up to you to reach the place and see the artworks in person, or you can catch a glimpse in the site of the foundation, where you can also find info about the initiatives for the celebration, taking place worldwide.

These pictures were taken in the garden surrounding the museum and show Burri's monumental iron sculptures. Painted red and black, important colors in his production: GrandeFerro Sestante, 1982, Grande Ferro K 1982, Ferro U 1990.
